I have my first ever official commission. The first half of the cash has been handed over to me, and I am about to order the EL wire setup. Luckily, I found an online shop that will put the custom set-up together for me for not too much extra.
But I already feel the pressure. I'm charging $185 for something that I've never done before. I think I can pull it off, but it's a load of pressure--especially because this guy is going to be parading with a bunch of other guys who are gonna want to know how he got his costumed modded--and how they can get it done, too. In other words, it's a perfect set up for me, but I want to do a really good job, so I can justify charging for my time.
Also, his buddies rent an apartment for the carnival season right at the same spot where I will be watching the parades--so free bathroom trips will be available for me. Nice! (There are guys who rent portapotties to put in their pickups and then charge a buck to each person who needs to go. Can you say "small fortune"?)
OMG! I have set my deadline for Feb 13, (so he has the costume in hand before the parade on the 19th, and if there are any bugs, we have time to work them out.) Words cannot express how simultaneously exciting and terrifying this is for me. |
